Eco Chill: A Circular Urban Cooling Network for Climate Resilience

Hong Kong is heating up, urban island effect is affecting the temperature more gradually year by year, and our sanitation workers are facing one of the most victimized by this situation; in this project, we have 3 aims:

1) Reducing occupational health risks (heatstroke at work not classified as stutatory occupational disease, companies not following guidelines offered by authorities)
2) Heat inequity (some rubbish collection point aka resting area are unventilated, causing the temperature even higher than outdoor)
3) Socioecological Vulnerability (limited power to demand, no partition between resting and working areas)

We propose one simple solution: a easy-to-wear cooling scarf, with regular checkups via chatting and check-ins via writing:

1) raise worker's awareness on their body's need when it comes to heat through checkins
2) remind them of their rights to cooling through regular discussions
3) help them regulate their body temperature during work and if neccessary, during rest as well

This eco pad include only 2 different salts, organic food additive, and water; so it is disposable in dilution without harming lives. The pack is aimed to use only recycled plastic (TPU, or PVC), and the scarf material will be sourced from sham shui po in unused cloth, and made by craftwomen from Jordan.
